INDIA: UK university to award degree in India

As India prepares to open its doors to foreign universities, at least one British university already has a foot in the door through a joint venture with the University of Madras and several other Indian institutions, writes Hasan Suroor for The Hindu.

Northampton University is to launch a masters degree in environmental technology at Madras University in February next year under a joint UK-India programme aimed at promoting research links between the two countries.

Although the course would be delivered by teachers from both universities, the final degree would be awarded by the University of Northampton.
