MOZAMBIQUE: New regulations for higher education
30.08.2010 The Mozambican government has approved new regulations on the licensing and functioning of higher education institutions which collectively deal with more than 70,000 students, reports AllAfrica.com.
The regulations establish clear and objective criteria on the composition, function and supervision of the institutions, which have grown from one to 38 in the last 35 years - but without appropriate legislation to regulate them or to cater for distinctions between universities, polytechnics and other higher education institutions. The new regulations introduce requirements such as a minimum number of teachers, the appointment of rectors or directors and a mission statement for each institution.
