Yet, increasing population levels and the industrialization of developing economies put increasing strain on available resources, leading to the intensive exploitation of existing oilfields and increase in fuel costs.  Given the role of energy in the economy, the growth and efficiency of the energy business is one of the most important issues facing the global economy in this century.
